Survey - EBN Pan-European Survey on MSDs in Nursing

EBN Pan-European Survey on MSDs in Nursing

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are one of the most common and serious occupational health challenges affecting nurses across Europe. Daily clinical work often involves physically demanding tasks such as patient handling, prolonged standing, and repetitive movements, which can lead to pain, long-term injury, and reduced quality of life.

This survey, conducted by the European Biosafety Network, aims to better understand the real working conditions of nursing staff, including workload, access to assistive equipment, and the prevalence and severity of MSDs in practice. The evidence collected will directly contribute to a European position paper intended to support stronger occupational health policies and safer working environments for nurses.

We invite nurses across Europe to share their experience. Your input is essential in building a clearer picture of the risks you face every day—and in driving meaningful change at policy level.
